Renewing Your Vows
Renewing your vows, in my opinion, are almost more important than the wedding itself. To uphold the commitment to stay together through thick and thin is one of the most challenging things people could ever do. Having a ceremony to commemorate your hard work and dedication to each other is something that no one should ever take lightly. The great thing about vow renewals is that there’s so much you don’t need in comparison to a traditional wedding. You can save a lot of money or spend a lot, but it's your choice. Showcasing your love for your spouse will be an important milestone that you don't want to miss. Here are my four suggestions.
Themed Vows
This is your chance to show your spouse's personality as well as yours. This is the time where you want to show your family and friends who you and your spouse have become as a unified couple. Show your similarities; the things that you have grown to love as two people who became one. If it's a movie theme, a favorite TV show, or a favorite color, this is the time to go all out and just have fun.
Special Outfits
Wedding dresses are so expensive! A vow renewal doesn’t necessarily need a wedding gown, so choosing a ballgown, cocktail dress, or something more casual is still appropriate. These types of dresses are usually more affordable, but you can still be Hollywood glamour if you like. You could also do multiple wardrobe changes. It’s your party, get dressed up if you want to...or not.
The Vows
In the beginning of your marriage you may have recited the standard vows for your ceremony. Even if you and your spouse decided to write your own vows, this time it's different. You've been together for a while now and had to get through some rough times together. You've both decided to stick it out and make it work. You’ve also had some great times together. This is the moment where you find out how much your hearts have changed towards each other. You can analyze your marriage and hear how your spouse has analyzed it as well.
Guests
Inviting people can be such a drain, but at your vow renewal, it should be much easier. This is a special moment for family and friends. You don’t have to invite your husband’s great aunt or distant cousin. You may have worried about seating at your wedding, but this time, there’s no need for it. Don’t worry about who sits where, who was left out, or who can’t make it. This special moment is for those who will appreciate it regardless of family ties.
Conclusion
You’ve made it this far and you should celebrate. There aren’t any rules, except have fun and fall in love all over again! Never forget to take pictures because photographed memories are, in my opinion, the best type of memory catcher. For photography inquiries, email dblake@carpediemdesignstudios.com.
